Latin Recipe ~ Meat Turnovers
Pastelillos de Carne
This dish is known as empanadas throughout the Latin America, and pastelillos are street food on the Isla (Island). Traditionally, it includes beef fillings, seafood, and cheese. These are eaten as snacks or appetizers. Taste fabulous with a side of garden salad.
1 pound frozen puff pastry, thawed
1 cup Basic Beef Picadillo
1 egg, beaten
Preheat the oven to 375F. Roll the dough 1/8 inch thick and cut out circles about 4 1/2 inches wide. Fill one side of each circle with 1 1/2 tablespoons of picadillo.
Brush the dough edges with the egg. Fold and press the dough to form a half moon and place on an un-greased sheet. Bake for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
Makes 10 pastelillos...enjoy!
